I believe that the idea of democracy, is the biggest achievement of mankind in his quest for an organised society. The other day I watched this documentary by BBC on the birth and spread of protestant christianity in Western Europe and how it shaped the Political spectrum in Western Europe and then ultimately Northern America. It was fascinating to watch how this idea of protesting man made authority, originally thought of, by Martin Luther, a german priest to oppose the abusing authority of catholic church, grew into a wider struggle for social and spirtual equality among the masses. This idea of levelling ulitimately led to devolopment of democracy, as we see it today. But as there always was the struggle between the factions who beleived in in the purist form of the Protestant idealogy and those who beleived in a more radical form of it, the struggle continues to exist even today between the conservatives and the secular liberals in America.
